I am soooo in love with this beautiful creation!!!
You see, I am the crafty mom, the chick who spent Saturday nights in college scrapbooking with her bestie watching sappy movies, the daughter of an art teacher….the one who never needed help….until now.
As you have noticed from the absence of blog posts, this fall has been a rollercoaster ride around our house and Christmas snuck up on me.
Now that baby Gigi is 18 months, I wanted her to create a present for my husband. I wanted something that could be an experience for her with a product to treasure in the years to come.
As you may have noticed from my recipe of venison taco salad, my husband loves deer. He loves to feed them, to watch them and ultimately to harvest one for our freezer. The deer bring my family so much joy. Therefore, I got the bright idea that I wanted to create some kind of handprint or footprint art that would incorporate a deer. That’s when Pinterest came through for me and I fell in love with a picture posted by CrafyMorning.com as shown below.
Even though I loved this idea, I only had one baby footprint to add and I didn’t just want a canvas hung in my house, but a functional gift.
That is when I thought about a local create-your-own ceramic shop near me called Hot Pots. I took Gigi in the store and they made my dream come true. The lovely ladies that worked there allowed me to pick my object and color preferences. They had the idea to use her footprint for the daddy deer and to draw the baby deer, but use Gigi’s thumbprints for the ears. I never imagined that they could take that drawing and make it come to life on the mug that I chose. A few choice selections and a quick sponge on Gigi’s foot and thumb was all it took. The artists took care of the rest and that was just the help I needed with a rowdy toddler. The finished product was…..
(I took 2 pictures, because one just did not do justice to the entire piece.)
All of my Christmas shopping may not be done, but I think this gift is what I am most excited to watch hubby open this year.
