Let’s Talk About Sport Bras
Sports Bras….something every woman needs and something most women don’t want to discuss. Whether you are small or large chested, sports bras are a neccesity for a comfortable and safe workout. In some situations, women prefer to workout in a sports bra due to the comfort of the product, the sweat factor of her workout, type of activity and how comfortable she is in her body.
I worked my way through my Masters of Arts in Teaching program as an administrative assistant at a well-know sporting goods chain. The dress code was to wear athletic wear and I loved it. Going to work in gym clothes everyday was a dream…except that that meant stocking my wardrobe with sports bras (because lets face it, athletic clothes just don’t look right with a traditional bra). Not truly grasping the importance of a sports bra, I would scour the clearance racks for discounted bras and my secret is that I am still wearing them 6 years later 🙁
So that means that I am on a quest for new sports bras. Now while I am on the yellow brick road of sports bras, I had to narrow down the criteria for my ideal purchase.
- Price must be affordable. All sports bras are pricey to begin with, but I want a solid, well performing sports bra that won’t break the bank.
- Bra must be able to perform well (i.e.-allow me to weight lift or hit my HITT class without discomfort and keeping me well supported.)
- It has to look good. I don’t personally workout in only a sports bra, but many of my training tanks are loose or have an open back and I want a bra that will look as attractive as functional.
MY TOP 6 LIST
My top 6 list includes the brands Zella, Nike and Brooks.
Brooks has long ago captured the running market. This has me hopeful that they would create a bra that will outlast any work out, whether running or weight lifting.
Nike is a household name when it comes to fitness and they have always created products that have been known to last while maintaining product integrity.
However, the brand Zella I was a little unfamiliar with, so of course I did my research. Zella is an athletic clothing company that offers their products exclusively through Nordstrom. They offer athletic clothes and athleisure clothing for women, men, and girls. They claim that their clothing is designed to go from yoga class to high impact cardio sessions and beyond….thereby making their brand a one stop shop. When I hear the word Nordstrom, I think good quality but higher priced. However, I was pleased to find that the Zella bras were fashionable and priced right around their competitors. I have so much excitement for the brand that I have 4 of my top 6 picks as Zella sports bras.
So….without further ado….My top 6 sports bra picks are…..
